Thousands of former Libyan rebels will prepare for integration into government security structures by training in Jordan.
Libyan Interior Ministry spokesman General Abdelmonem al-Tunsi said that a memorandum of understanding has been signed by the two countries, and some 10,000 “thwar” (rats-‘revolutionaries’) will participate in the training programme, . The initial batch of 1,000 rats will start training in Jordan on March 1st. Al-Tunsi said that Libya chose Jordan because of Amman’s experience in training Iraqi police with the assistance of the United States.
Italy, meanwhile, will help Nato-mercenaries in training its police force, quoting Italian Foreign Minister Giulio Terzi di Sant’Agata. The secretary visited Libya on Saturday, as part of a diplomatic and business delegation led by Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti.
